Two STEMworks™ AFTERschool schools had career and college-focused Parent Nights to showcase what students can do as careers with the hands-on skills they learn while in the program.
Lanai High and Elementary School students engaged with hands-on STEM activities during their Parent Night on February 10. Students learned about the different career paths available to them once they gain the skills and knowledge from the programs. Both parents and students learned how to code, built circuits, and flew a drone simulation this past Parent Night.
The offered programs at Lanai High and Elem. School are:
- Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
- GIS
- Beginners and Advanced Coding
- Beginners and Advanced Cybersecurity
- Robotics
- Digital Media
Maui Waena Intermediate School hosted a Parent Night of their own on February 17, with focus on preparing for high school and college pathways. Tad Iwata from Maui High School talked about finding the right pathway in high school leads to finding what major students will be interested in college.
The programs offered at Maui Waena Intermediate School are:
- Digital Media
- Agriculture
- Computer Science
Students were able to view Women in Technology’s 2nd edition of their College Toolkit, which gives a brief outline of how students should start preparing for higher education in middle school.
